Double Page Spread Roughs

Regardless of how I choose to lay out my double page spread I've decided on the elements that I want to include for the final piece.

After doing research on various children's cookbooks, I think that a limited colour palette works well, using a range of about 2-3 complimentary colours to keep things from looking too overwhelming. I think that a handwriting style font for both the title and main body of text works well as this seems to make the book more approachable to children and will add an element of fun.

So far the vast majority of children's cookbooks that I have looked at have used illustrations to accompany the numbered stages of creating the recipe. This is something that I would also like to include, although I intend to keep the illustrations simple. I've also noticed that some cookbooks have included textured backgrounds on recipe pages to give a little depth and give an informal handmade feel and this is something that I would like to experiment with. I also like the idea of adding an illustrated character to draw children in and the idea of incorporating little extras such as facts and games to keep the child entertained.
